I looked into these and from what I found via you tube, you can hardly hurt the skin. they are light, durable , inexpensive and responsive . I've not paddled one, but am considering a build.

BWCA universe,

I've got an opportunity to buy a lightweight canoe that 6 years old, wood frame with canvas and laminate. They are made by Urban Boatbuilders.

Wilderness Traveler

I have heard these boats are a durable as kevlar, but need some help verifying this. I'm in a bit of a race to commit to buying it, but want to be sure I'm getting a canoe I can portage and paddle in the BWCA for decades to come.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I did my own research too and I think I'm going to give it a try. Sounds like people who own them are careful for a few years and then treat them like any other boat after a while. Hoping it trips well.

I used to be the Executive Director of Urban Boatbuilders. It is a swell organization that teaches wooden boat building to city youth. They know what they are doing.
