I recently completed an axe restoration project ( link ) and the next step is to make a sheath. I know there are some experienced leatherworkers on the bulletinboard, and I need some advice on leather. Are there some methods for tanning leather that are preferred for use with metal? I seem to recall reading somewhere that some tanning methods can cause rust when the leather is in contact with steel. Is this correct?
What is a good online source of small amounts of quality leather?
