Also, it would be neat if there was a yearly combined sale, kind of like what Spirit Mountain does with skis and boards." Agreed - Midwest Mountaineering has a gear swap June 20 if you're in the metro area: https://www.facebook.com/events/402078813722177

ebay will get you the widest possible audience for the gear, and I would strongly recommend including it in your choices. I have bought and sold all kinds of outdoor gear that way. People who recognize what you have will jump at the chance to bid. Factor in the selling fees and shipping charges when pricing. Including free shipping is often very helpful to get something moved. Another useful approach is to be explicit that you'll combine shipping charges for a buyer where appropriate. BTW, stay well away from all international selling. The sole exception I might consider, given the context, is to include Canadian buyers.
The canoes will probably do best here, on Craigslist and on Facebook Marketplace.

I have done lots of buying/selling using Facebook's Marketplace. I've found it easier than Craigslist.

Can I suggest the "Items for Sale or Wanted" forum on this site?
I'd think the experienced members of this site would appreciate some of the older, quality items and have a good insight as to their realistic value.

I have two sons in which I have tried my best to instill a passion for the outdoors, camping, hiking and canoeing. My fantasy is that upon my passing, they split my gear and continue to use it with their own families. I frequently buy a second of a particularly useful peice of gear so they will each have one.
Having my family continue to use my gear when I can no longer would be, for me, the greatest return on my investment. However, if I had to liquidate my gear today, I have had terrific response when selling items on Craigslist.

I've had good luck selling on craigs list. Cash/local only. Depending on what you have, I'd list canoes separately from other gear.

Growing up, my family annually took a canoe trip out of Ely from the late 60s through the early 80s. My parents kept all the equipment they acquired over the years, including aluminum and Kevlar canoes and a bunch of Duluth packs, as well as other supplies. They are now ready to downsize and would like to find the best location, online or otherwise to get the most return on their investment. Any ideas would be appreciated.
