I have royalex, Kevlar and aluminum canoes. I would not remove the seat from my aluminum canoes as they probably are part of the strength of the canoe. Also, I do not find them to be too uncomfortable.

I haven’t done it but you could contact Northwest Canoe Company in Clearwater MN. They sell a wood and webbing contour canoe seat that may work. I’m sure someone has replaced Alumacraft seats before and they may know how.

I just got a 1989 Alumacraft QT-17CL. It is in great condition, but I'm thinking of removing the aluminum seats and replacing them with a wooden frame with webbing. Has anyone tried this, how did you do it, and how did it turn out?
