Bent shaft or kayak style double bladed worked best for me

Take each. A bent for distance and a straight for play. You should have a backup anyway.

Bent Shaft all the way. Besides Sit and Switch style you can do a J stroke on a bent if you choose. Actually you can do almost every stroke with a bent. Back in the Late 80s a guy named Harry Roberts introduced the Americana Touring Technique about the same time Free Style came out. It was geared towards canoe like the Advantage . It involved linking strokes with a good lean for aggressive turning using a bent shaft. I could almost get a 180 with my Advantage.

I used to own an Advantage and thought it worked best with a bent. Never tried it with a double bladed paddle, so can't comment on that.

I do the same:

3 per side: trolling.
4 per side: making tracks.
5 per side: mother-in-law in pursuit.

I use a black bart 50" paddle and find it to work just as good as my double blade. I've stopped bringing the double blade as a backup and just bring my other bart paddle. I waiver between 3-5 each side depending on what my reason for paddling is.

Those that paddle an Advantage, do you find it paddles better with a bent shaft or straight shaft paddle?

My back up is a 50" bent carbon fiber that I suspect is an older ZRE that I picked up ion Ebay years ago. Love the Black Bart.
