Last summer I found a deal on a couple older Duluth Monarch packs, and a Portage Pack Company Superior pack. The canvas and leather on all the packs is in really good shape, and I want to keep them that way for many years. The Monarch packs are in really good condition. Have been well cared for over the years. Probably will just use Kiwi Conditioning Oil (that's what I currently have on hand for my work boots) for the straps. The PPC Superior pack, while it is in really good shape, didn't get a whole lot of use, so the canvas and the straps are pretty stiff. I know it will "break in" with use, but I would like to soften things up a little bit to hopefully ward of cracking and breaking. For the canvas, I'm thinking mild diluted blend of soap and water should be fine, but for the straps...would a few massage sessions of the Kiwi Oil work well to soften/protect the straps, or is there something better I should be looking at? |
