You might consider a small fiber glass patch over the damaged area. W/O seeing it it's hard to say that a coat of varnish would be adequate.

Would simple marine varnish be best way to repair craked/crushed veneer on wooden paddle. All the paddle repair videos are for full on broken blades. Thanks for any advice in advance.

Thanks all, it is more of an area where the varnish is rubbed off due to long lazy J-strokes against side of canoe. Less structural damage.

if its just a small dimple where its crushed, you could probably get buy with just some epoxy/resin in that spot. If its actually split or surface is fully cracked or any other physical integrity compromised, I would use some fiberglass cloth with the epoxy/resin to help give it strength.

If it is just a crushed spot then making sure it is not absorbing water would probably be fine. If there is a crack or split in the veneer epoxy resin to bind it back together and maybe a fiberglass patch would be best.
