Hey! I’d like to get involved with some of the photo contests for BWCA when we go up in September. Usually we rent the Wenonah Boundary Waters Kevlar 17’ so I’m looking for recommendations for phone mounts that aren’t permanent, but steady enough to take video. I will be in the front of the canoe if that makes a difference.

Anyone have something they love? Thanks!

I would not want my $1000 iPhone anywhere near the front of a canoe, even in a mount. Look at getting a GoPro camera with a mount. They are very affordable and the mounts are endless. You can pick up a small 1’ square Session camera for around a $100. It takes pictures at 10 mp and video at 4K. You even can take some really cool video underwater. I’ve made videos with it attached to the bottom of the canoe for lake bottom shots. I’ve taken video of stringers full of fish. Just pull your memory chip out of it and plug directly into your phone or iPad for transfer to wherever you want. The newer versions have image stabilization in the camera so movement of a canoe is minimized.

Look into bicycle handle bar mounts for smart phones. Handle bars are close to the same diameter as grab handles and Thwarts on Wenonahs. There's many options out there. A life Proof case is a good idea for your phone.
