Your Advantage will feel steadier.... and slower.

Right now I'm carrying maybe 45lbs total for a 5 day trip. I weigh 205lbs. In the past I would carry more maybe 60lbs total. I don't weigh my stuff but compare it to a 45lbs weight lifting plate. I never felt over loaded. You'll notice that the Advantage "feel" firms up when loaded.

Last 11 day trip me 220lbs, 2 packs 50lbs, fishing, camera, PFD, paddles, and assorted stuff all included around 300 pounds. I tend to pack light. Plenty extra capacity.

Tomorrow, I am going to put a 40lb bag of dirt in the stern, a 30lb bucket of sand in the bow and my 260lb self in the seat to see how the Advantage behaves loaded. Any predictions on if I'll end up taking a bath?

I don't plan to take 70lbs of gear, but this will give me an idea of its capacity.

I'll report back with my findings..... :)

Assuming its open to overnight camping, my BWCA trip begins in a few weeks.

This will be my first voyage in my new to me Wenonah Advantage....and my biggest concern is the carrying capacity of this fine hull.

Can those who have tripped in an Advantage give me an idea how much weight you've carried? Hopefully this can put my mind at ease....

Thanks in advance.

Looks like you have plenty of capacity, you'll love it. It's interesting to note that the Advantage was originally a racing canoe. The middle "bulge" was created so the canoe would adhere to the width to length ratio rules. The widest part of the canoe usually isn't in the water. Just a sneaky way to stay within the rules.

Post up your results. I'm curious as well. I'm 255 and haven't had my new advantage out for a trip longer than a day yet but plan on making it to BWCA this year with it.

So this is a CCS Explored pack with food for 5 days and gear. Weighs just under 30 lbs. I move the seat forward but not all the way . The canoe has good trim. A stiff head wind confirmed it

As promised, here is my report:

I loaded the bucket of sand in the bow and the bag of dirt in the stern, sat myself down and had my sweet wife take some pictures. Before leaving my house, I cut some thin strips of black duct tape and eyeballed the middle of the tumblehome bulge to get an idea how close I was to submerging the widest part of the boat.

I paddled around for about 30 minutes with both the single & double blade. I felt stable. When intentionally rocking side to side, I could still feel the resistance of the secondary stability. All in all, a successful test.

Upon returning home, I double checked the weight of my ballast....combined, just shy of 80lbs. Along with my 263lbs, that’s about a 343lb load. This certainly inspires confidence for my upcoming trip. Thanks to all who shared their experience.

I've had mine out for a 12 night trip in late October. Probably 70# gear and 185# me. Went for 5 nights with 60# dog included. Never felt close to over-loaded.
