I was told to spray paint a few blemishes on my red Bell Yellowstone to protect from sun damage. Has anyone matched a spray paint color to the canoe color? Or, any other ideas? |

I was out with my canoe club, with a new paddler that had only used a plastic (or something like that) kayak from Dick's. You know you can throw those around/drag them all over with no damage. At the put-in, I took my canoe off and set it in the grass beside my car...I went to pee behind my car...And, this new paddler was trying to be helpful, took the painter rope, and drug my canoe down to the river for me, through gravel. I can still hear the sound..... She just did not know not to do that. So...I think it will show if I get the color too off, and I am bad at matching colors. But, I have faith my friend's brother can help me get it close. |

I did call. They asked around, and everybody there at the time didn’t know. I appreciated they took a lot of time to ask around. This is just my favorite canoe, and I don’t want it to look really bad. |

I’ll just have to match it up as best I can. I’ll post what color seems to work. |

I suggest you get a RAL COLOR FAN DECK to best match the color. The inexpensive RAL K7 CLASSIC will allow to get a really close match most of the time. You’ll also find that having a color fan is useful for other future non-paddling projects. RAL is an internationally recognized color classification system used in virtually every industry, not just paint. Once you have the RAL Color Code (RAL ####), go to myperfectcolor and enter the color code and then select what sheen you want it in. I’ve always been able to order spray paint colors from the RAL K7 Classic (<$10 per spray can). Note: there are numerous other online sites to order from. If you want to get extremely particular about the color match, you can get more expensive and larger color fans or even just a color fan of shades of red. However, the spray paint will have to likely be custom made and will be 15-times + more expensive in the small quantity you'll need. Note: you can download all of the RAL colors for free online, but unlikely your screen is calibrated for this to be useful. On the rare occasion that I can't get a good color match with the K7, my hack is to use my K7 fan to visually calibrate a couple of the closes K7 colors on my computer screen and then the larger online color selections are in the ballpark.
