Getting ready to send in my really old #4 to Duluth Pack to have some repairs done. This pack is probably 40 years old and really smells funky. I have been airing it out in a dehumidified room, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I've always made sure it was dry before storing, but obviously, it must have been damp when I put it away last time.
Any suggestions on how to reduce the odor?

Simple green + water + scrub brush.
Scrub really well inside and outside, spray rinse and hang outside until dry. If that doesn't take care of the smell, then it will probably be like that forever.

You could try Revivex Odor Eliminator from Gear Aid. That has worked well on my portaging boots.

I've used this product several times with good results.

I have the same issue with my mail bag for work! years of sweat and grime getting on it can get funky. I use Oxyclean with great results! Fill your utility sink with very hot water and couple scoops of Oxy and you will be amazed how much junk comes out in the water. Hope this helps.

Put it in your bathtub with a gallon of white vinegar, and let it soak overnight. Then take it outside and rinse with a hose. Set in the sun to dry. Vinegar breaks down any organic smell, water rinses it away.
