I have used self inflating pads and still happy with what I have, but it packs big and heavy. I picked up a thermarest neo air with the battery pump but am not happy with the pump. Too slow and mostly only partially fills the mattress. I understand blowing air in from my mouth introduces moisture and other contaminants. So what do you do/recommend?
PS It is crinkly, but in the sleeve of my bridge hammock it gives some nice support and extra warmth.

Right or wrong, I've always blown mine up by mouth to finish them airing up. Maybe that's how I'll avoid getting sick with covid...years of blowing into my pads and whatever awesomeness that exposes me to :)

4 puffs from my DIY schozzle and a full neo air:-). Did my trial set up this afternoon and could have easily napped. The pad gave me just the support I wanted. Sleeping set up is all good.

Exped has a schnozzel that is basically a dry bag with tube and fitting for pad. My ul5 takes 3-4 bags of air, my dlx9 maybe 8 or so. I think there is a generic one that fits other pads. I see Exped has an universal adapter now. Weighs almost nothing. PS easier to inflate outside tent.

I use the inflator on my NeoAir also. It helps to get it all the way over the nozzle, but I always end up giving it two or three more breaths like cyclones30. I don't think it's enough to worry about. I believe Thermarest has an inflator bag also. There's always some small things to do while it inflates. I don't sit there and watch it, just like I don't sit there and time my gravity filter to see if it's 5 seconds slower or faster :).

I do what Boonie does with my double layer bridge hammock when I use an xtherm pad instead of an underquilt. I only use a pad if there's the potential I won't have trees to hang my hammock - recent BW burn areas or some sections of SHT.
Using a pad in the hammock I find it's easiest to use the pump to fully inflate the pad and then lay on it and slowly release some air until it's comfortable.

My too slow comment was of minimal concern. I got my neo air at COPIA in 2019 and have played around and looked for a snozzle that might fit the neoair valve. I will look into the Exped nozzle adaptor, special thanks for that. I watched Wally13 use his schnozzle while my pump buzzed away and occasionally pinch off the air flow and wished I had gotten the exped. Until an adaptor and schnozzle get into my system I will use the mini pump and top off for the "right" pressure for me. I have been called a Goldilocks type. And thanks again.

For inflation, I made one of these, and it works great - doubles as a pack liner for me and it inflates the pad FAST:

I was going to post about the DIY option also, but sns beat me to it. I made the same trash bag inflator and it works as simply and effectively as advertised.

Nemo Cosmo Air, long. Has a built in foot pump. 25 inches wide. 77 inches long. 3 inches thick when inflated. 1 lb 13 oz. Holds air for 3+ days. Fits perfectly into a Marmot 1P Tungsten tent. The only thing I would do differently if I could do over would be to get the insulated version.

I blow mine up with my mouth, seems fine. As for the crinkle, it will slowly get quieter as the fabric wears in, and gets softer.

I had some trouble finding a plastic bottle, but the assembly is easy and the DIY sleeping pad inflator has solved one of my problems. Many thanks.
