a few years ago i ran a post where i used thompson original water seal to cover a older nylon tent.that was in 2018 and after putting on a way to heavy layer i put it in a big paper leaf bag.the bag ended up in the garage rafters where it was exposed to summer heat until this year.i had it out in 2019 for a look and a new bag as the old one soaked up a lot of sealer.i thought the original would dry to a stiff water glass finish but it was oily for years.this summer i had it up and it seems to have dryed to a good finish.back in a new bag and this summer i'll give it a rain water spray to see if it really took.i have a Plan B camp set up for june at one of the few drive in camp open and i want to used it as a cooking shelter.

If you could set it up and leave it for a good amount of time, out of direct sunlight, that would help a lot.

I have just used a water based soak to refurbish old tents. NikWax TX. Easy to apply, setup the wet tent to dry. Will get some extra life out of old tents as well as rain gear.
