Bad idea. 4oz glass is real heavy for a paddle. When I glass paddle blades I use 1.5oz glass. It's like tissue paper but strengthens the blade. You will knock the balance out of the paddle by putting extra weight on the blade. If you are not experienced in glass/epoxy, you are in for a real chore and some dissapointment. (I don't know if you are experienced or not) There is no reason to glass the paddle. They use thicker wood on blades w/o glass. Thinner wood w/glass. Tom |

I cracked the blade on my Espresso a few years ago, mailed it into BB and they not only repaired the crack, but refinished the entire paddle for only $40 (plus shipping). I think you should be just fine leaving it alone and enjoying the light weight. |

tumblehome: "My two cents because you asked. My feelings as well. Not needed. I have 5 BB paddles with only the rock guard, no fiberglass (2 beaver tails, 2 loons, 1 BB special). They all get used regularly and are all at least 6 years old and are holding up well. Touch up the nicks at the end of each season and you're good to go. |
