Just a heads up, I noticed that a bunch of retailers have the Garmin 66ion sale now for $450.00, down from the normal price of $600.00.........

The first two places I looked - Cabela's and REI - have them on sale for $449.99. Last year, they offered them on sale at $500.

That’s a good deal at that price. Garmin might be offering them on sale because of a new model is coming out soon. Just make sure that whoever you order it from has them in stock. I just waited three months directly from Garmin for a fish finder because of a worldwide microchip shortage.

Not interested in the Inreach version, but the SR with multiband capability, the latest in accuracy for a commercial GPS. But they are not on sale!

Ken, what's the SR? Probably one of the 'doh' moments and can't think of it.

Pete,
It's a GPS 66 model, that uses a multi-band receiver. This enables comparisons between different international GPS satellite systems, such a US GPS, Galileo, Quasi-Zenith and GLONASS. As I carry a separate PLB the Inreach function is less important. The ability to get GPS location signals in the mountains out west is important for my travels. I've been happy with my 62st which I bought used, the 66sr finally has the upgrades I consider interesting.
