Looks like a great product. Going to the bathroom is still the biggest concern for my two daughters when we go on wilderness trips. This looks like a great solution for part of the ordeal. Thank you for sharing!

Seems like you'd still have to dry yourself so why not use a large witch hobble or goosefoot maple leaf if you want to avoid using TP? I've used both and they work quite well. If you're traveling in the northern tier of the US, these two plants are typically found in the environments we find ourselves in. Both leaves are large, supple, soft and strong. Seems like an obvious way to go if you're willing to try them.

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.

Backcountry bidet

I don't recall seeing this discussed here at BWCA.com, but guessing it has been.

There is a DIY alternative that one can make for next to nothing. You need a soft drink bottle, wire cutters (or knife), and a drill with a 1/16 inch bit.

Step 1: remove the plastic ring below the bottle cap with the wire cutter or a knife.

Step 2: drill a hole at the junction of the bottle threads and plastic flange. The hole angle can be from 45 to 90 degrees, depending on one's preference. I find that 45 degrees works best, but YMMV.

Step 3: Target practice - the bottle is filled with water and squeezed forcefully. It might be best to practice in the shower before an actual "moon shot". Target acquisition is not that tricky, but a little practice does help.

One does have the option at home to use warm water from the tap, but cool water on a hot day, when your bottom sticks to the seat, is refreshing when you hydro-blast the 1 inch speaker. I would probably not recommend this method when winter camping and available liquid water is near freezing.

This does reduce TP usage considerably, but a small amount is still necessary for a quality control check.

When tp got scarce last year, we put in a Toto toilet seat. It definitely cuts down on tp usage even though you have to dry. But it heats the water. Not sure if I want to spray cold water on my butt in the middle of the night. But I’m a bit intrigued.

You'd need a dedicated water bottle for it. No way I would ever consider drinking out of that one.

I guess it is a good concept; especially in places where you have to pack out your TP. However, don't a lot of water bottles come with a squeeze cap already. You don't get the same angle, but I think it would work the same. Call me old fashioned, but I will continue to use TP.
