I’ve used a Silky Big Boy for about my last 8 trips. No doubt the blade is better at cutting than any other saw I’ve used. It’s much thicker than the blade for my Bahco by abou 3X. It’s has been especially great when I have had to clear blowdown from campsites or portages.
That said, I think there is one shortcoming. When I am sawing up a long log in camp and have to use one hand to hold the log steady, my sawing hand can get a bit sore because of the angle that you hold the saw. On a winter trip where I had to process a lot of wood, I had both the Silky and my 24 inch Bahco and switched back and forth. After a while, I just used the Bahco because there was less hand fatigue. So for two handed sawing the Silky rules, but I have considered switching to a saw with a different hand position (like Agawa Canyon) for one handed in camp sawing.

The big boy is on my list of things I need to have in my pack next season. What size teeth are on your saw? Cut any hardwood with it, or mostly softwoods?

+1 on the big boy with extra large teeth. Definitely worth the weight and great for processing firewood.

I have the extra large teeth on all three of my Silky saws and have cut oak, birch, and maple with them. The only time they struggled was pruning live hard woods, but that is not what the extra large teeth are designed for.

Katana Boy is the best cold weather saw out there. I've also used it on the 'too large' down wood that isn't rotten and it still gets through in no time and give enough wood to last a while.

I couldn’t agree more. I’ve tried many if not all of the other camp saw options. Should have bought the big boy first and been done with it.

CCS does it again! I was not happy with any of the saw case options out there for the Silky Big Boy, so I spoke with Dan Cooke, got him some measurements and he made me a bomber Cordura case for it with a Velcro closure on the front and some belt/lash loops on the back side. While not specifically related to the Big Boy, I also had him make a case for my Agawa Boreal 21, same features. Awesome custom gear and Dan's price was more than reasonable. I'm sure he still has the measurements/designs if anyone wants to contact him about getting your own. Here's some pics. Note - I put the Big Boy into the case butt end first so the metal end doesn't wear a hole in the bottom of the case as it's a bit of a hard edge.

With all things Silky their products are top quality. If you are not familiar with saws like these, they are sharp. Like a chainsaw, let the saw do the work. Don’t try to hawg it through the wood. Good review for a great saw bumabu.

So after taking one 5 day solo trip with my new saw, I am a believer. Over the course of 5 days (three of them rainy) I processed a LOT of wood. I was drawn to this model because of it's simplicity. I love how quick and slim it packs.
It's definitely different but I love it. I think it's main value comes from two things; first it is GREAT at taking small limbs off of downed trees and is soooo much safer than using a hatchet to do so. Secondly, and probably most importantly, is the ability to process really large logs that other saws cannot. I arrived at one site and there was an 8 foot section of a dry dead pine that measured about 10 inches thick. I cut it up with no problems at all, and the larger log size split really easy being mostly free from knots.
Basically what I am saying is that if you have ever considered replacing your saw, this thing is a beast.
