I don't have a picture, but that is what I did. I just hacked the cylindrical filter thingy off as close as I could to the fitting. Then, I just literally added the sawyer mini a couple feet down from the bag. Works great.

Its really not very difficult. Just turn the bag inside out and cut off the filter. Under the paper there will be lots of charcoal pellets, so be prepared for a mess. Rinse off the charcoal and turn right side out. Attach a hose and in line filter with a shut off valve. Done.

Be sure you take the back flush syringe with you. You will need to flush with clean water about every two bags of water. A simple tiny clamp at Home Depot will work to shut off the water supply.

Thanks for the info. Some pics were emailed to me. I sent back all the Katadyn filters and have two Sawyer mini's coming. The old Katadyn is hacksawed and were getting ready for some nice unplugged filtering to start this summer.

Help! I've been searching through past threads but can't find any pics or detailed steps on hack sawing the Katadyn Base Camp Filter and fitting it with either a Platypus or Sawyer Gravity system. I would like to use our Katadyn blue bag because it holds a lot of water but the filters plug so fast that we need to make a switch. Many thanks!
