tonyyarusso: "Good grief, $1,200 in dividend? Did you buy a car with the credit card or something?" I do have the REI credit card and I did purchase quite a bit of equipment/cloths from REI last year. This is by far the most I have ever earned. I do have to say, it is really cool to walk thru the store and pick something out knowing that it is "free".

OCDave: "Scout64: "Got my REI dividends this weekend $1,200. I think I am going to use it for a kayak (or at least part of a kayak). What are you using your dividends for?"
For several years I carried the REI credit card and accumulated significant dividend checks but, found I didn't love the opptions REI provided me to spend it on. I switched to Apple Card last year. The cash back far exceeds what I previously accumulated as REI dividend and I can spend it anywhere. So...actually thinking I'll put it toward a Triumph Motorcycle this spring." Right. I'll use my REI card for actual REI purchases for that much higher percentage reward. Also for the occasional promo reward. Otherwise, my usual card will offer a percentage cash reward that's just as good or better.

I have no idea yet…
I’ve noticed REI used to release their dividend with their spring sale. Now they release it a few weeks ahead of time hoping customers blow it early before maximizing their money/dividend instead of waiting for their biggest sale.
This time of year might be better than Christmas…even though I need nothing :)

Probably grab the 6l platypus gravity filter this year with my dividend to replace our aging sawyer gravity filter. Mine was $300 this year from the credit card rewards and some gear I updated last year for the John Muir Trail. Not exactly sure what to get with the remainder yet. I can always get freeze dried foods / fuel for a trip. If nothing else I will eventually need a new pair of shoes.

Time to maximize the dividend! Sale started today. Combine your dividend with 20% off!
A little cheap this year of REI :) usually they have massive sales as well—looks like just the 20% member coupon right now.

Probably a Kelty backpack carrier for a toddler - time for Grandma to carry more weight while hiking in the wilderness :-). Going this weekend with granddaughter (11 mo and rambunctious!) to see how she fits in it and how it carries. We had one for both of our kids and loved it.

I like REI but a $1200 dividend is wild. That has to rate up there at the all time top refunds. Hats off to you.

My dividend is about $450.00 but will not be this large going forward. Since I don't buy much gear anymore, I usually cash out most of my dividend after July 1 when I can get a check. But I noticed that starting this year dividends will not be redeemable for cash. Since I won't be buying much gear due to already having pretty much everything I need and getting close to aging-out of more vigorous outdoor activities (I'll be 75 this fall), I will be switching to using a different credit card for daily use. Kind of sad since I have been an REI member since 1973 and bought a lot of gear there thru the years.

I have 100 bucks that would take some of the sting out of a new carbon paddle but I'm unsure if I want the bending branches black pearl or if I should go elsewhere to find the Wenonah version... Any suggestions?

My REI MC gives me my kick back every month, as a result I always have a browser open to buy something...it's a vicious cycle

Kathadyn Befree was sole purchase with 20% off coupon. I like this one because of the high flow rate and cheapish replacement filters. I’ve heard durability is not great, but it’s a trade off for ease of use. When solo I would exclusively use this one, but still use gravity for 2+ people.

$66.68. I had no idea that I had bought that much. :-) I think the formula used to calculate dividends was a bit more generous this year.
Got some socks and some meals - mostly Mountain House, which we are totally sold on, but this year's experimental meal is an AlpineAire Grilled Chicken with Spinach Alfredo Pasta. I hope it's as filling as its name...
