You could always make a portable one. I made this one for my kevlar that clamps onto the gunwales but I'm sure it would work for almost any rental. For portaging with gear, I clamp it on right behind the bow paddlers seat and then move it behind the yoke when fishing.
"

Nice setup.

Trying this setup out this year:

Scotty Gunnel Clamp:

https://scotty.com/product/433-coaming-gunnel-clamp-mount/

Scotty Transducer Mount (needs to be the 140 to work with the gunnel clamp, not the 141):

https://scotty.com/product/no-140-kayak-sup-transducer-arm-mount-for-post-mounts/

Hawkeye Fishtrax 1c (only needs AA batteries to run, instead of a heavy battery rig):

https://hawkeyeelectronics.com/collections/fishtrax-series/products/fishtrax-1c-fish-finder

You can get the Fishtrax with transducer arm as a package from Hawkeye, but the arm is not the one that will work with the gunnel clamp and is made for kayaks/sups with the built in receiver. Same Scotty clamp will worth with the scotty rod holder.

There is no doubt that this is a well thought out setup for his needs. I will argue that shooting the transducer signal through the hull works fine for me without the need for bringing a heavy arm to hang over the side, but his fancier screen display probably shows details best if it's directly in the water. Also, I have portaged with loads hanging on the thwarts before and it is a pain, especially if it swings feely, like his battery bag will as shown here. It could be snugged up tighter on the thwart, but the weight still throws me off on the portage.

Eric, I do like how the SealLine bag snaps downward rather than in a rolled circle like most bags. What model bag is that?

Threads like this are why I read this website. Good stuff.

Props to Portagemule for the videos on their setup. They are what got me on track with the Scotty stuff for my setup.

Arm is easy to swing out of the water and detach. It is all kept off on actually travel days with gear when not fishing.

Worth noting this Patagonia bag as well that can easily attach to the thwart and can just fit a Plano 3450-23 Double Sided lure box to keep it out of a messing canoe bottom or making noise left sliding around.

Follow-up with setup photo. Everything worked well except form lack of fish biting.

I'm thinking about making something similar.
I would advise caution if you're planning to use the transducer arm. I found that it really creates a lot of drag, some noise, and it accumulates seaweed and algae and milfoil like crazy.
I went back to thru-hull

I am looking for a simple diy thwart fish finder and rod holder ideas for a rental canoe. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks!!!!

I use a pipe strap for the tranducer arm. Cuts like a knife.

Hello really like your console. Will attempt to replicate yours for my Souris River. Do you have the specific details and or diagram you could share with me?

Thanks much

I also use a Hawkeye FishTrax 1c so I don't need to deal with an external battery. I use the suction cup mount for the transducer so I don't need to have extra accessories in the canoe to mount it.

I mount the FishTrax display to the thwart with this Scotty portable camera mount (the FishTrax display has a standard camera mount on the bottom). The mount comes with the clamp shown in the second photo of the Amazon listing.

I use this Scotty rod holder when I need/want a rod holder, typically just when I'm dragging my Pink Lady for Lake Trout.

The mounts all stay on for portaging. Everything else slips into the top of a pack or my tackle bag.

Are you planning on going up this year and out of ely? When is your trip planned? I have the striker 4 fish finder and a rod holder. You can see my setup on YouTube if you search Portage mule. I'll be making three trips up to the boundary Waters this year and depending on when you're going I could possibly leave one up there at my outfitter for you to borrow. Send me a message at Rob@portagemule.com.

I found this video on YouTube putting a mounting system on the thwart. Once I get enough courage to drill into my brand new carbon thwart I am adding this :)

Whoops didn’t read well enough. Using an outfitter’s canoe. I like the Ram claw option. You could also use a rail mount. I used to use a folbe rod holder on a rail mount. Just instal when you get the canoe and remove after the trip.

RAM mount system - very portable option that can fit on many different canoes. This video shows it in more detail (He is another member on these forums). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_e5RpiVbqQo&t=591s&ab_channel=FarWater
