Update: I never listed it for sale but I had 2 members of this site show interest in my boat, neither were able to close a deal. My son decided to list it on Market Place and sold it almost immediately for $1500.

I need some input on the fair market value of a Souris River Quetico 17. I am not sure of the year of the boat I would have to check. It was one year old when I bought it from Latourells. I used it on maybe 8 one week base camp trips in the Quetico. It had some hairline cracks that I glassed over with West System epoxy and then I put a coat of varnish on the whole thing. It hasn’t been in the water since. The cracks weren’t leaking but I noticed it when I was loading it on my car so I went ahead and did the repair just in case.

I moved to NC after I did the repairs and the boat has been stored in my sons garage since 2018.

Anyways I think my tripping days may be over so I will probably put the boat up for sale unless my son thinks we should hang on to it.

I have no clue on a value for this boat it might be a 2008. . Help please.

~JOE~

Edit: my son checked the year it is an 05. I bought it in 06 and tripped each year till I moved so I used it on 12 Quetico trips if I went every year. May have skipped a year , can’t remember.

I'll take a stab at it, but get out a fistfull of salt to go with.

In good condition in Minnesota, I'd guess between $1400 and $1800. Pristine, maybe over 2K. But you describe some damage...not sure how visible it is or how it shows without some photos. If it has very visible patching/reinforcement, that's definitely a negative.

In North Carolina? I suspect the market to be significantly lower than MN/WI, perhaps by 20-30%.

All guesswork. Photos would help, and perhaps someone else who knows more will chime in.

Thank you all. I would classify it to be in “good” condition. The repairs are not glaringly obvious. It was some hairline cracks that I repaired. Used cloth and epoxy on the inside and then I applied a coat of varnish on the outside. Always garage kept and I never abused it. Always wet foot entry and exit.

I’m going to list it for sale in the Chicago marketplace. I guess for $1000. I have 2 cheap paddles, 2 crazy creek seat backs and one GCI seat back that will come with it. If anyone wants it before I list it just let me know otherwise watch for it on Marketplace and craigslist. My son just took pictures so I will post those in the add.

Nice clean basic boat w/ good seats. It's a sellers market right now, I'd list it for more than $1000 and have that in your mind as the lowest you'd go. But if you're not in a pinch to sell it, I'd list for $1300 and see what happens.

If you want to be nice to someone on the forums you could list it for lower but honestly you could probably get at least $1700 for that package.

I was going to say $1400 but agree with the sentiment. It's a sellers market for sure. They can't keep new canoes in stock, most canoe retailers increased their prices by $200-500 this year for new. We are in a weird market right now where people are selling their used canoes for sometimes more than they paid when they bought them years ago or even in a few cases more than they paid when they bought it new years ago. I just bought a brand new canoe in February and I believe it's already $500 more if you can even find it to buy it. CRAZY!

If you are not in a hurry you could list $1700-1800 I wouldn't be surprised if it sold at that price. You can always sell it lower later.

A $1000 you will sell quick...if you are doing a person a favor...great...if you ae just randomly selling it they might be buying it and flipping it anyway.

$1000 is a fair price, it should move quickly at that.

If no major repairs, I'd say somewhere over $1000. Seems like outfitter sell their used ones in the $900 to $1500 range depending on condition. Of course they're many years newer than yours but also likely more abused and some show it.

If it's not been sitting out in the sun in its life that's a big plus.

But a kelvar tandem from a well known brand in ok to good condition is easily over $1000, and maybe much more in today's market
