I've used a fitted mat on river trips from the desert south west to above the arctic circle. Best way to prevent that sinking feeling I believe.

Wait! Do you have on socks while wearing flip flops? Although you're making those enormous Chacos look fabulous, you must have not heard the saying that "toes and hose is no-goes!"

Thanks all for the solutions. The wiffle balls are simple and light. How can a person go against Dan's idea? Highly respected in my mind, maker of the best gear available. It's good to have choices.

Old guy with cold feet and basement hasn't warmed up yet. Thanks for the fashion tip which I probably won't remember :)

Argo: "Helinox sells a rocking chair accessory for the Chair 1. They clip on to feet and voila, your chair one rocks. I bought a pair but have only used them in the living room so far. Not tested in the field. " I use the GCI Roadtrip Rocker. It weighs more but is good on uneven terrain. Nothing better than a camp fire and a rocking chair enjoying the wilderness.

Besides tennis balls, what are your solutions to keep your collapsible chair from sinking into the ground?

Just back from a week long trip to the BW and used the wiffle golf balls on our chairs and they worked great. Thanks for the economical solution to sinking camp chairs. This site is the best! Blessings

I've been searching and thinking about a solution to the sinking-chair problem. The commercial solutions are extremely overpriced and some are solid and quite heavy. I really like the wiffle ball idea. Thanks! I was able to pick up a mat-type anti-sink pad at REI's garage sale for a reasonable price. I'm going to test it out next week. Maybe I'll get some wiffle balls for my daughter to try!

Amazon sell either the little balls that go on the bottom of the chair feet, or a mat that you insert the feet into. Both work pretty well, but I think I like the mat better. The fabric in the middle provides some more stability.

I like the waffle ball idea. Not to be critical, when I was a kid, mid to late last century we called them wiffle balls. Is it a regional thing? Thanks for the tip!

Yes, I just noticed that. Not a regional thing but a auto-spell correction thing. They were wiffle balls when I played with them probably early 1960’s and I still have a number of whiffle balls and the yellow plastic bat from when my kids used them and they are now 47 and 45.
I read about using wiffle golf balls somewhere and I like that they easily fit in my camp chair storage bag. They have gone on a lot of trips with me and will be going along to northern Manitoba this August.

Just got back from my first BWCA trip using one of those chairs and I really needed to see this thread. I made due using rocks and logs but I'm definitely getting some of those training golf balls.

Thanks for the tip. What a great idea, although the price gives me pause.
