I just bought a Nova Craft Fox this last week as my first solo. Very similar to the swift p14 and I have fallen head over heels. :) Tracks just right when paddling seated and centered for a long cruise and when you heel it over it is unbelievably nimble.

I have a 250cm kayak paddle on the way, but at this point I don't feel like I'm missing anything because it responds so well to a single paddle.

Taking it on a week long trip over 4th of July on the gunflint.

I would imagine the pack boat would be just a bit better suited to fishing since it probably catches less wind. Have you had it in rivers or waves yet?

Nice boat! To avoid getting water in the canoe, try pushing the drip rings all the way out as far as they will go toward the blades of the paddle. Should help a lot.

I recently purchased a Swift 13.6 Pack boat, which thus far seems better suited for fishing lakes in windy conditions than does my Northstar NorthWind Solo.

The seat on the Pack is on the bottom of the hull and is extremely comfortable. It’s padded and has a back rest. The foot braces can be easily adjusted on the fly. Stability seems extremely good. The thwarts include Scotty universal mounts to which I’ve attached a fishing rod holder.

I suppose the stability comparison between the two boats isn’t fair because I opted for a kneeling seat on my NW and i inevitably sit.

I’ve used a single blade paddle in the Pack and it appears to work just fine. However, most of the time I’m using a 250 cm kayak paddle, which brings a little water aboard.

Here is a pic with my son in it:

Overall, I’m very happy with the Pack.

RunningFox: "Scoobs: "Congrats on the 13.6. Swift makes beautiful boats. I thought about the 13.6 Pack, but wanted a bit more room/volume. I ended up with the Prospector 14 Pack. It’s absolutely fantastic for fishing as well. Once my wife paddled my boat last week on Loon Lake, she was hooked. I get the feeling the 13.6 Pack may be our next purchase.

Scoobs,

Beautiful boat you have there.

I bought the 13.6 because I figured my NW Solo would be my tripping boat. Truthfully, I wasn’t so sure I would like the Pack configuration. I thought I was more of a traditional canoeist. But now, having experienced the Swift Pack design and features, I feel a Prospector 14 would in all likelihood be the ideal boat for me.

The Prospector 14 Pack is very seaworthy, and tracks and glides much better than most people suggest, or want to believe. I’m a it a racing boat? No. Certainly not. But it’s fantastic none the less.

Extremely beautiful boats! And they're so great for paddling and enjoying the water. I own a 12.6 pack and my partner went with a 15.8 cruiser. We had them in the BWCA 2 years ago. I prefer the kayak paddle as well and figure if I'm in the boat, I'm probably getting wet at some point.

Our boats tucked in at our Gaskin campsite the next morning.
