Do a search on the topic you will find quite a bit of discussion on them. I have a Bending Branches 7 Degree from Red Rock and I love it for my solo Wenonah Wilderness. I also have Bending Branches 60 inch Beavertail which I use in the rear of my SR 18.5... Different situations and I love both paddles!

cowdoc,

You're certainly right in that Rutabaga visits can lead to a lot of collateral damage...

I'm sure they had 7 degree paddles. They seemed to have everything. I think the guy who helped me was the owner. He was pretty sure that I would be happiest with a 14 degree paddle. He wasn't a big fan of the J stroke which seems to be the only disadvantage of a 14 degree paddle...

I couldn't help myself...

I stopped by Rutabaga yesterday. (Rutabaga hosts Canoecopia). I just wanted a map...

I asked the guy checking me out about paddles and mentioned that I might buy a bent shaft paddle at Canoecopia. He proceeded to give me a 30 minute lesson on paddles, strokes and paddling. I really enjoyed it since I know very little about paddling.

I bought a Bending Branches 14 degree paddle. He even gave me the Canoecopia price. It sure is a pretty paddle...

Will there be 7 degree paddles at Canoecopia?

Is Red Rock the only place to get them?

I called up to red rock and it sounded like they were not going to the northwest sport show in Minneapolis or Canoecopia.

Someone will probably have them now that bending branches makes a 7 degree.

Went to Rutabaga and just wanted a map......yeah, I've said that to myself a few times ;-)! FAIL!
Did they have any 7 degrees?

The steering ability of the 7 degree is close to a straight shaft. Yes...slightly different, but much better than trying to operate in the stern with a 14 degree. My bow paddlers like the 14's, but I will not use one in the stern anymore.

Has anyone tried these 7 degree bent shaft paddles? Likes or dislikes?

Yes, the Mitchell. Good all around paddle in bow or stern, easier to handle than a 14. My son has snagged mine so I went back to a long straight shaft but I would buy another in a heartbeat when I find the need. I like the offset palm grip. Got mine at Red Rock. paddle

That is the exact paddle I am considering and I saw it at the Redrock booth a couple years ago.
I like the idea of 'lifting less water", but afraid I will give up too much steering ability.
Your positive endorsement makes me think this is a good compromise design.
Anyone else have experience with these?

Like the BB 7 degree. IMO, for stern, 7 bent is all bend you want. Depends on stroker.
