Camping gear itself (sleeping pads, etc) is slightly discounted but not as much a steal.

I have done the same. 1/4 zip pull over, $15.00, Columbia fleece jacket, $15.00.
Butane canisters a $1.00 or more cheaper than anyone else. Lot of other thing that I don’t need but are tempting me.

I buy all my Smartwool base layers from Sierra. I always get at least 50% retail. Good prices for sure!
Not too many years ago before they were bought out, you could only buy online and boy could you get some steals!

Always buy Mountain House meals via Sierra for a couple dollars cheaper than the other guys. Easy adds as well since I'm a sucker for their $89 free shipping and always finding myself throwing a few odds and ends in to get it. Can be doubled up with Rakuten % earnings too.

I've never shopped at Sierra, but I'll have to check it out. I do shop at military surplus stores for that reason. You can find some incredible deals on extremely high quality gear if you know what to look for, and are willing to sift through the chaff a bit. Granted, it won't be name-brand, and you won't look like an Instagram influencer while using it, but that's part of the appeal for me :)

Have shopped at Sierra for years, and as many have said, they have some killer deals. Latest for me (well, my dogs, actually) have been two XL dog beds. Woof!

After winning the debate about water resistant vs waterproof gear I then realized I would have to help outfit a handful of first timers coming into the BW with me. As others have mentioned as well, I found great deals on name brand rain gear as well as other essentials on the cheap. Especially for folks dipping their toes into wilderness and/or canoe camping I'll give the store some credit for making parts of the trip far more affordable for those not ready to take the plunge on high end gear, or even those like me that don't like to stomach normal price tags on some gear. I've found merino wool clothing items that have "minor defects" they've started selling regularly now too.

Agreed about clothes. When we were setting up to take 6 of our nephews, my wife got them a lot of camping clothing at Sierra. Only physical store we’ve been to was one time to the original one in Reno. Didn’t realize they had spread out so much. I mean we could see the Sierra from the store and drove over it on the way home later that day.

I used to do this all the time...sort by 'items on clearance' and end up buying a bunch of stuff you didn't even know you needed, but cheap as heck!

For some reason I was always able to find nice quality quick-dry underwear at Sierra and at a really great price. I need some new stuff so will be searching online soon.
