I'm wondering if anyone can remember the particular emergency poncho that Stu recommends in the BWCA journal. I actually have one, but want to order a second one and can't for the life of me remember where I ordered it from or who makes it. It's green on one side (I've also seen brown), reflective silver on the other, and has a hood as well as two hand holds in the corners, grommets on all sides. Stu uses it as part of his kitchen setup as a ground cloth to set things on. He talked about it in one of his wilderness skills/camping optimization articles in the Journal within the past 5 years.
Thanks if anyone can remember the item I'm looking for!

Just to point out that the Original doesn't have a hood or hand-hold pockets. You'll need to get the hooded version for that.
I'm not sure it matters if you're using it for a kitchen floor, but wanted to mention it.
I have one very similar to the original and it makes a great sun shade for those mid-day naps.

Thanks, I do have the one with the hood. I went to order another and it was backordered, but I found this one that looks similar, and doesn't have the hood, which is preferrable for my use.

Although it sounds like you are more focused on the poncho aspect I have a possible cheaper option. I made a "lunch/kitchen cloth" out of vinyl tablecloth from of the odds and ends bin at the fabric store. Folded it over (rolled the edges first) to have the vinyl on both sides and sewed the edges. Works really well to give you a clean work area and weighs almost nothing, wipes clean. Myrid of uses.

I've used a heavy piece of poly for a "table cloth" for years. I usually use it while sitting on an REI pad (like a crazy creek seat). Works great.

Great idea! I really don’t care about the poncho feature. Just useful as a ground cloth/table cloth. It’s been useful on various park picnic tables from state parks to Yellowstone. The hood has been sort of awkward, but I’ve kept it on in case it needs to be used in an emergency situation. I’ll compare it to the one I just ordered that doesn’t have the hood. In the end, the kitchen ground cloth has been a great addition to the kit.
