I would be more comfortable at $1200 - $1400. The canoe is a Kevlar cross rib Wenonah. It is heavier because it is not vacuum bag to remove excess resin. For $2000 or less you should be able to find an ultralight canoe. It looks nice, but that doesn’t make it lighter. You probably wouldn’t have any trouble portaging it, canoes get heavy after 60 -65 lbs. Unless you are barking at 70 years old, then they all get heavy. Carl

That's a beautiful boat. Some people prefer gelcoat as it has a little better impact resistance. Personally, at that price, I'd rather have a more well-used ultralight. That's subjective, but keep in mind that if you use it, especially in the BWCA, it's going to get scratched up quickly. So paying a premium for a pristine canoe of that age may not make sense.
Being gelcoat, you'll need to look for cracks and if there are any ensure they aren't soft.

Interesting!
Personally, I too am of the mindset that if I'm spending that money, I want an ultralight boat...and 56# is not UL.

I appreciate the feedback. I said to contact me if they come off that price. I will continue to search with this input in mind.

She has the manual and looked it is #56. Thoughts on price at $1900? She is selling for her parents who purchased it in 2000.

Looks like it, with a Gelcoat. But what I find surprising is the plate shows a build year of '99. I have a '96 with the more modern foam diamond core vs the cross-ribs. They must have let they buyer choose for a while? Anyone know?
Regardless, looks mint - must have spent most of its life in front of the mirror...a true garage queen.
Could be a great buy, depending on price.

Asking 1900 with a dolly and paddles, don't know how good of paddles. Its a couple hour drive from me but may see what bottom dollar is. Regardless it would be manageable for portage you think?

I would ask for close ups of the bottom before making the trip - I'd also ask them to get out a bathroom scale.
Price not out of the ballpark if it is indeed Kevlar & all in good nick.
Weight if Kevlar should be in the low to mid 40# range. If it's in the 55 - 60# range, then it's tuf-weave.
Edit to add: for me, portaging a 40# canoe is fine, but is about my limit. Your tolerance may vary.

I appreciate your info and suggestions on this tremendously. I requested what you mentioned and she was firm on the price as of now.

Here is a closer of the bottom she sent. The boat is hanging in the garage and her husband will try to get detailed pics.

" Great condition on that canoe. It’s worth her asking price, but it depends on how soon you need a canoe. Maybe you can find a better deal, but it could be weeks from now where you could be paddling this weekend.

Looking to purchase this. Possibly owner doesn't know much about weight or anything else other than Kevlar. Does this look to be Kevlar? Thanks for any opinions. A lot of money and I am a new paddler.
