I'm looking at getting my kids a lantern each for Christmas and before I pull the trigger, I wanted to see if anyone had some good recommendations. I did try searching, but I just took my son for his first BWCA trip this last summer and will be looking to do more car camping and BWCA trips this next year. He's turning 10 and his sister is about to turn 8. I've found that them having their own light really helps with keeping the kids happy at night.
The lantern I've been considering is Cabela's Mini LED Lantern, but to be honest I have not done all that much research. Thoughts or suggestions?

I love my LuminAID solar lanterns. Luci lights are also popular. Lot of different options that are all lightweight, pack small, and very useful around camp.
Flashlights or headlamps may be more fun for exploring around camp.

My son gave me this for Christmas last year. I used it a lot and it worked very well. NEBO GALILEO Air 500 Lantern It collapses down flat and provides three different light settings. I used it on our 10 day trip and used just over one set of batteries. it also has a ring on the underside if you want to hang it from a ridgeline or inside a tent. It gives plenty of light and can be used in lots of different situations. Or you can set it on the low setting for a little ambient light. The only downside is that it runs on three AA batteries and is not rechargeable.

Outdoor Gear Lab reviewed 24 lanterns. Look at this and what members on here suggest too.

This has really worked well for me. It's rechargeable and multiple power level. I generally recharge via a USB cable... the solar panel takes a long time. Goal Zero Lantern
