I recently bought a small lithium car battery starter. Its essentially a lithium battery that can charge a car battery to start. Its small and light, maybe about a pound, and maybe 10 inches by 3 inches by 4 inches in size. It has ports for charging cell phones and other small electric appliances. Has anyone used these small battery packs for charging electrical devices when camping? They are much less expensive than a jackery, they do not have solar hookups. I am just curious.

We have used a jump starter battery pack before out of convenience because it was in the vehicle at the trailhead (I make sure I have one in every vehicle now after having to use them a couple times).
If you just want something dedicated for charging devices on trips a regular charging pack will save you some weight and $$$ over the jump starter pack.

Probably overkill for your purposes unless you indeed need the cranking amps for a car. A simple Ankar charger would suffice for phones, flashlights, cameras, GPSs etc...

Thanks for the advice. I already have the car chargers and that is why I thought they could perform double duty.

Go get your scale! If your pack is indeed close to a pound it sounds like a winner but I bet it's more like 3 or 4. The 20k mAh Anker I bring on most trips weighs about 17 ounces and measures 7.1" x 3.2" x 0.9".
