I bought one of these this year and we didn't use it at all. I set it up, but we stayed at the EP day 1 so never unloaded it, got to camp late on day 2, were gone all day on day 3, and left early on day 4.

I will say that the screen walls made it hard to use as a tarp only. If I were to try it again, I'd pin the walls up on 1 or two sides to make it easier to go in and out then only close it up if we wanted to go in there to get away from the bugs. The whole idea of it being a "bug free zone" made us not want to go in and out a bunch, which just lead to us not using it at all. A regular tarp with a more versatile setup would have been much more useful on a trip like this where the only time we were in camp and the bugs were bad was when we were cooking dinner and then enjoying the fire for a bit after.

Maybe if I could find a good way to set it up as a porch for the tent, it would work better. I wouldn't put the tent completely inside it so it would be harder to prevent large gaps and not all tent pads are open enough for that type of setup so it wouldn't be as easy as I'd like it, but it could be a fun setup if we were base camping.

I bought CCS bug shelter but haven’t used it yet. Had to cancel my trip. I don’t think I will leave the sides down at night when I am sleeping. I have heard of rodents chewing holes in them. I watched video of guy in Adirondacks who had racoons destroy his during the night to get in. Probably checking for food.

Hi all.
At the last minute i picked up a combination tarp with bug screening attached to bring on a 6 day trip.
i honestly didnt expect much. was just hoping for some decent cover for my tent with the added bonus of keeping the biting insects away.
turns out there really were no bugs to speak of, but i did get some rain. one heck of a storm on one night actually, with some high winds.
i was actually quite happy with this. it stood up to a pretty good storm.
one nice thing about it is it is big enough that my tent actually will fit inside this shelter.
so i get kind of an outter layer to stop bugs (when needed) on top of the protection of the tent.
you know how every time you get in your tent it fills up with skeeters? well this should prevent most of that.
the tarp portion, skirt, and bag is made from quite a thin rip stop nylon but the attachment points seem to be sewed on really well.
the screen def looks fine enough to keep anything out.
i am sure i will use this again. tarp / bug screen

I have placed a tent inside the same box screen tarp.

I have owned several box screen tarps that had retractable side nets and could be configured for tarp only protection.

I know it could have the walls up. It has ties to hold them up as well. I was just saying that setting it up with all walls down and staked from the start was a mistake. The hassle of zipping and unzipping the door every time you go in or out makes it too inconvenient unless you are actively trying to get away from the bugs. Pinning 1 or both doors open and having the option to shut them would have made it easier to get out of the sun or store gear, making the tarp much more usable.

I use this same design (sold under a different brand). I've had it for a couple of years now and it is nice when doing base camping.

I am thinking about modifying mine, cutting it in half essentially, resewing the bugnet on the back and letting the other half of the tarp pitch down, much like a lean too. Gotta trim the weight, and dont need that big of a space for 2 people to play cards in on a buggy or rainy day.

I have BWCA tripped with a screen porch for quite some time. When my grandchildren were younger, I wanted them to have a positive experience that left them wanting more trips:dry, bug free. The years 2022-2024 were horrible for mosquitos in the Q in June, and my screen porch was a life saver. Yes, my small tent fits inside. I've had DAYS of rainy, stormy weather, requiring me to spend a lot of time inside the screen porch, leaving only to get more water, or put food pack away. To me, it is worth the extra weight.
