Tips:
1) measure once, twice, and thrice and don't cut (yet). Get a scrap piece of furring strip to use as your model (for both rails of the seat). Measure and cut your scrap to length. Try the fit. If you like it then start thinking about cutting your seat.
2) But first make sure that your canoe seat is centered between the gunwales ( don't assume that both rails are the same length either). Find the center of your scrap and position that on your seat rails. Of course you should find the center of your seat first. When done, the center of your seat should be directly over the keel line.
3) In mid-ship position there is probably little need to cut an angle on the seat rails (unlike bow or stern seats). Check

I was given this nice side-by-side canoe seat for two kids (from Piragis), but I'm not sure how to install it.

Youth Tandem Canoe Seat - Piragis
I want to install it just behind the yoke in my Wenonah Boundary Waters Kevlar canoe (aluminum gunwales).

Ideally, I would like to be able to remove this seat fairly easily for trips where I didn't have the kids along.

Help or advice on how best to do this would be greatly appreciated!

Ed's

Go to Ed's website, click canoe seats, there's a picture of one of theirs already installed. You just cut it to fit, then suspend it from the gunwhale with through-bolts, using the spacers to make it more rigid. I would do it differently, but I need to find another part so I can show you. I'll be back if I find it.

Bracket

I would use these, this is probably the way your other seats are installed

I'm looking to do the same thing with the same boat! What configuration did you end up with? I'd be interested to talk! 0, 1, 3year old. Based out of Minneapolis
