quote Saberboys: "What is your experience with Kelty's catenary shaped tarp vs. a square cut tarp? I like the price but it would seem that you would have to buy a much larger tarp with a catenary cut to cover the same space of a square cut tarp? Maybe a good cover for a tent entrance, but does it work well for a larger group over the fire? "

I have a cat cut tarp and yes you lose coverage with them. That is why I switched over to a square cut one. Also not a lot of tie outs to it. I had some added on even. I have a 10x10 cat cut and it doesn't seem to have much room compared to a square cut one.

We love the 16' for center of camp tarp. It allows a group of 5-7 people to easily get under it. If we need to make it smaller - we just fold back half and have a good triangle tarp.

Sorry about that. I even did a quick look before I posted it and missed it entirely.

Super price. I have the big one and gave 50 on sale in 2008. Yes, it is cat cut, but never had a problem and string up a ridgeline to pull it over quite often. No leaks at around 100 days. Around 4 lbs. but we base camp often or stay a couple nights in same camp. I am not much of a minimalist and usually trip only once a year. If I were a serious tripper/mover a 1.1 of would be in the budjet. I like the Noah 16. Enough for 4.

CanoeKev: "unbelievable prices. These are great tarps, and if I didn't already have 3 12' and one 16' I would buy more! They go up really fast and don't require a ridge line or a center pole. We love them."

Keep in mind that the Kelty Noah tarps are NOT waterproof unlike the silnylon tarps from CCS.

Thanks for the heads up, those prices are reasonable.

I've been trying to gear up so I can rent just a canoe on this year's trip, and a tarp was one of the things still needed. I just sprang for the 12' size. Shipping was $5 and another couple of bucks for tax, so total was $38.

Good price - Amazon wants $53 for the same Kelty 12" tarp.

If you run your ridgeline and divide the Noah 12 into rectangles instead of the long triangular ridge line, I'd call the coverage close to a 10X10 square cut. Infinite number of ways to pitch a tarp, the typical one they show for the Noah is one I've only used when creating a covered 'entry' area between to tents when car camping. The Kelty's are inexpensive but certainly do the job...have kept me dry through some real downpours. Have 2 of the 12's, but couldn't resist ordering the 16. I'll determine upon its arrival if it is going along on this year's BW trip.

I've never seen a Kelty Noah listed with poles included, even at full price.
