I'm living in Finland and do a lot of winter hiking. Mostly the Superior Hiking Trail, as it's close. I would like to get up to Ely this winter and find some new trails. As soon as hunting is over I'll try to get up there. For sure by Christmas.

Talusman,
If you do get to Ely, maybe TJ and I could meet you for coffee or something to say Hi. He works shiftwork, so it usually is a challenge to include him, but we'd try.
As active as I am, I do have physical limitations and would never be able to keep up with you on a hike, but if you are ever looking for an easier hike, keep us in mind.
TJ is a monster, he can hike all day and walk really fast. He paces himself for me when we go together. TG

We hiked (and cross country skiied) a lot last winter. The snow conditions were such that trails packed well, and we could hike easily in a lot of out of the way places. Hiking where snowshoe enthusiasts had packed the trails was always great, too. (And no, we didn't hike on soft snowshoe-packed trails. We didn't ruin anyone's tracking.)

Does anyone else get out there in the winter months? How about up in the Ely area? TG
