I day tripped to there one day close to 30 years ago. We didn't find a portage and bushwhacked from the creek, up to the pond, and then to Dugout. There was a small tree growing through the fire grate and the camp site appeared unused. The lake was full of very aggressive northern pike. We didn't get any monsters. You'll definitely have solitude. Good luck.

I'm looking to head up to BWCA out of EP 1 and noticed a secluded lake "dugout lake" east of Trout Lake. There's a campsite there so i'm assuming its accessible. Does anyone have experience with that area at all, related to what the site might be like and potential portages etc? I'm heading there in May.

The DNR surveyed it in 2015. Bluegill, Perch, White Sucker, and Pike are in there. Looks like a few really nice perch too. The campsite has been removed and there is no official portage. Looks like they followed a creek up from Pine Creek to get there. Dugout Lake
