I've stayed at E.B. campground on a number of occasions at various sites including a few with lake access.

This is just my 2 cents. ...
It's a very nice campground for car camping but, if you're looking for an idyllic lakeside site I'd look elsewhere. While some sites do offer lake access; usually its just a weedy path down to the lakeshore where fishing and swimming opportunities are not ideal.

Haven't stayed at E Bearskin but I can tell you that Crescent Lake campground is a great place that offers what you are looking for. Sites 6 thru 9 are right on the lake with 8 being the best site IMO. 29 and 31 are also lakeside. Crescent is a gorgeous lake that offers great canoeing and very good fishing, filled with islands, bays and points it is very scenic. Virtually across the road from the BWCA, it is pretty remote and pristine. One of my favorite spots to camp.

This is the view from site number 8

Have done many BWCA trips with my son, but for a few different reasons we are planning an easy, short (3 night) car camping-type trip in early October.

I'm having a hard time with the idea of not having a quiet campsite overlooking the water! From what I've read, it sounds like sites 3 (not available for our dates) and 6 have water views. I also read in the North Shore Camping book that site 17 was the "best" site for tent camping in the author's opinion.

Anyone have experience with these sites at East Bearskin?

I have read about some other campgrounds in the Grand Marais and Tofte areas that sound like they have sites on the water but, again, from the best I can tell, many/most aren't reservable--and I would really prefer that.

I am also considering the Gunflint Pines private campground after reading some positive reviews here but not sure it's the experience we're looking for.

Any feedback would be appreciated!
