Just got back...I was in the Homer area some 40 years ago but didn't remember much about it. I guess I didn't think it was that great of an area but I was wrong. Really pleasant entry, very scenic, good fishing and very few people. The only thing we didn't see is much wildlife. Still, very nice.

Trip report is posted:

Glad you had a good trip Lindy....... I wish I would have had more than 2 nights to explore the area more and do some more fishing. I loved my little adventure down the Vern River my 2nd night but want to go back when I have a full day to explore further. I just might bring little duckling there next year for our daddy/daughter trip and basecamp on Vern and get her a walleye dinner.

moose664788...... I really liked the area when I did a solo there in May the weekend before Memorial day. I was only there 2 nights but I didn't see anyone else. It took me about 2 hours from ep to my site on Pipe the 1st day. 2 hours from Pipe to the site on Vern that Lindy stayed at, and a little less than 2 hours from Vern to the ep on the way out.

I stayed at the site Lindy did on Vern and liked it. I thought it was nicer than the other one but the other one would do especially w a small group. I really liked my paddle down the Vern River but I didn't do it until later in the day so I didn't go very far but loved it. I really want to get back and basecamp there w/ my daughter next year to see more of it and do some more fishing. I really like how quiet it is for not being very far away from an ep. Also, it's an ep that you can usually do as a spur of the moment trip because the permits don't go very fast. When I went on my solo I didn't even bother reserving a permit and just walked into the Ranger Station and said "Homer for today please".

Thanks for the great trip report that entry point is definitely on my bucket list as I am looking for smaller lakes with fewer entry permits allowed now a days.

Definitely I check it out in the future. Looks like you had enough to keep you busy for several days.

How long would you say the paddle from the entry point to Vern lake was?

Did you check any other campsites out on the other lake you visited?

How sadistic you like Vern? Nice campsites?

Great report! I've always debated about that entry.
