Yes I did read it! We were thinking of going in September too. Our little one will be 6 year old though! She is pretty used to the canoe and does pretty well in the BWCA.

We took a day trip there in late May, so we were only there to fish. It took 95 minutes. There are two portages and one very impressive beaver dam. Will be there again at the end of July with a group.

Never done the trip into Big Moose.
Anyone give me a real world "average" single portage paddle time from the parking lot to the lake or reverse? Only thing I could google looked like about 2 hours.
Those curvy rivers can be deceiving trying to estimate travel time on paper.
Thanks,

Went to big moose last year. Loved it. Northern campsite is a gem. Great fishing and very secluded. We had 4 nights and loved every minute of it. Make sure to check out the beach next to the duck lake portage. Also old remnants of a old camping site there. I would say you could get to the lake single portaging in under two hours. We double portage and it took us roughly 2 1/2 hours to get back to the car with two kids in tow.

Thanks! That is what I was looking for.
