It's a busy for BWCA standards, but light compared to anywhere else. He prepared for cold. In fact there has been years when ice out hadn't happened by season opener.

Planning to take my first trip up the the boundary Waters next year over fishing opener.
Curious what it’s like for amount of people up there at that time.
We’ll be going into entry point that’s only entry per day.

By keeping an eye on the number of OP permits taken in your area you will be able to predict quiet accurately. Of course, the number will change just before opener as people adjust plans due to weather and ice. It's a popular time, but it is also really the first wave of people in any numbers. I went this year and expected to see many more people than I did.
