I'm looking forward to a return to Vern from Homer with little duckling this summer. I was only on Vern 1 night on my solo last May and look forward to being there long enough to explore and fish more.

I like the Kawishiwi Triangle but prefer hitting it from EP 32 South Kawishiwi River.

I went Sawbill to Smoke with little duckling and really enjoyed it. I would like to get to the other fire lakes sometime.

Baker to Jack with big duckling was probably my most memorable trip. We caught lots of walleye on Jack and had a lot of moose sightings.

I love the Lizz area. I've been to the area multiple times..... so many different options for which direction to go.

Lots of good suggestions for new areas. I'll add or x2 the ideas of Baker, Sawbill, Little Indian Sioux N, or Moose River N. for entries. All have good options for shorter trips or adding length.

I have spent a great deal of the day looking at other posts and maps and more maps. I love the planning process.

I think I am liking the idea of Homer lake op 40. (Ducks liked it so it must be good).

Also the Kiwishi River Triangle 33 (I have gone east to Bald eagle from that entry before.

Maybe 37 to Poly or malberg I loved that trip. Sand beaches for the kids?

Gabbro to basswood falls. I was the only one to do that trip Wife was not on it and kids were not born yet.

schuetpa, you have been on some great trips and in some good areas...Kawishiwi to Malberg is one of my favorites too. This summer a buddy and I went to Homer and basecamped on Vern lake. We took daytrips each day,, fished some and just relaxed. Great trip and area, very good fishing and exploring the Vern River was really cool.

Another good option could be to enter at Baker Lake and head up to the Temperance Lakes. You would be going through an area known for moose sightings, with good fishing and long stretches of river like paddling along the way. Moderate portages and some very nice campsites and South Temperance is an absolutely beautiful lake, full of points islands and bays. Ducks has tripped in this area too and liked it!!

Another great option would be to enter at Lizz Lake and explore the area around Horseshoe Lake. Horseshoe is a very unique lake and perhaps the most well known area for moose sightings - they call it the Moose Highway. You can go south from there to Vista or Gaskin lakes, or head west through Allen, Pillsbery, Swallow and maybe even up to Meeds lake. Exit through Caribou back to Lizz and out through Poplar. Poplar has an outfitter located right on the lake if you need any rental equipment and there is also a very nice boat landing on the west end of the lake.

It's a good problem you have, trying to narrow down route choices for a BWCA trip...enjoy:)

Some other possibilities

Entry 14 - Little Indian Sioux North -
Option A. Paddle down the LIS to the Pauness Lakes and then over to Shell, Little Shell, or Lynx. Visit the Devil's Cascade. There is hiking trail in the area as well.

Option B. Head west to Loon Lake. This is bigger water and you will have motorized boats passing through.

Entry 38 - Sawbill Lake
Option A. Head east into the "Fire Lakes" - Smoke, Burnt, and Flame. Lots of territory to explore here. Day trip to Kelly Lake and find the abandoned mine between Kelly and Jack Lakes.

Option B. Head west to Grace Lake. Head further west to Phoebe Lake for a day trip.

Option C. Head northeast to Cherokee Lake. Cherokee has beautiful hills. Day trip to Frost Lake for a chance to see moose.

Option D. If you have started at Stuart Lake you are no stranger to longer portages in and out, head northwest through Kelso Lake and River, over the Lujenida/Zenith portage to Wine Lake or to Mesaba Lake. You will likely find solitude here.

Entry 54 - Seagull Lake
Head west to Ogishkemuncie. Day trips to Mueller Falls to the south and Eddy Falls to the west.

I am looking for entry point suggestions. I have done the trips below and looking for a new trip for this year. The current plan is 4 nights it will be 4 adults and 4 kids. Kids have all been there before and range from 4.5-10 years of age. I would like to not do a repeat trip if I don't have to but not sure what options I have other than something like lake one to Insula. Thank you for the suggestions.

I have gone in at 26 Wood Lake and came out Fall Lake going through the long portage to Ella Hall.

Went in at 22 Mudro to Basswood Falls and spent a night on Horse.

33 Gabbro to Bald Eagle

25 Moose to Knife and out Vera Ensign

37 Kawishiwi to Malberg

62 Clearwater to Pine

19 Staurt River to Staurt.
