Spirit of the Wilderness offers tows across Snowbank, and I’m sure there are other outfitters as well.

twistertail: "Thanks for the clarification guys. Snowbank is a motorboat lake correct? Is there tow service available to the Disappointment portage? Looks like its only a few miles but i paddled once through the Moose lake chain and didnt like dealing with the motor boats. " I didn't find the motor boats to be a problem. I did however find the wind to be a bit of an issue on my return trip which was later in the afternoon. I do want to comment on the use of a dock at the put in at Snowbank. It sucks for a canoe especially if your in a solo.

Precisely. We have entered on Snowbank twice, & the second time, the wind was howling & the lake was downright dangerous. We did not see a motorboat either time we entered.

If it was windy I would go to Parent 1st then to Disappointment. With a North Wind it wouldn't make any difference on the route.

Going from Snowbank to Disappointment is a 140r portage. it's a nice portage. What you might be seeing is at the Disappointment end of the portage this is where the 85r portage to Parent begins.

A parent lee... haha.
Unless you need some extra paddling time I’d go directly to disappointment. But sometimes the crossing on Snowbank is better going to Parent. I’ve stayed off Snowbank for good reason since 2012... had kind of a tough crossing. To practice for crossing that lake in any wind, practice paddling in your washing machine. Haha.

I'm a little confused on the portage from Snowbank to Disappointment lake. Looking at the maps on here it looks like there is one portage that goes from Snowbank to Disappointment and Parent lake, is that right? If I click on the portage for info its called Parent Lake and says 233 rods, is that the total length of portage if you go from Snowbank all the way down to Parent?

I think that is an error on the map on the site.

The Snowbank to Disappointment and Parent to Disappointment portages meet at the same spot on Disappointment.

The Snowbank to Disappointment is 144 i think, and then Parent to Disappointment is 87.

That is awfully close to the 233 it is showing.
