Very excited that I have an opportunity for a last minute trip with my son who is coming back from NYC to MN. We will only be able to be camp for two nights this time, but it’s been many years since we’ve been up to the BWCA, it will still absolutely be worth the drive up north for a short trip! Love the BWCA. The time together there is priceless.
Looking for ELY side EP recommendations, less than 4 hours of average speed paddling/portaging (well.. for an old guy who’s out of shape with some back issues) paddling/portaging, base camp with some fishing.
Bit of a gamble in terms of weather as entry will have to be May 9th!! But, that unpredictability will only add to the adventure~ : )
Thanks in advance!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! Changed our reservation to the following week....hopefully the ice is out by then!

Little Indian Sioux North so you should not have issues with ice out. Never know though! :-)

I was also going to say Knife, but noticed yo want your trip to start on May 9th for two nights? Unless I misread things, MN fishing opener is on May 11th. If your dates firm, you could fish on your last day. Am I off somewhere?

For a quick easy trip you could go in at the Little Gabbro entry and head to Gabbro or Bald Eagle. Gabbro Lake has several very nice campsites.

I agree, Gabbro would be a great destination. Easy in and out and a gorgeous area with many nice campsites. Plus, If the fishing opener date comes into play, Crappies will be open and Gabbro has good fishing for them.

Where did you get your permit for? (or did you just change your beginning day and not have an entry permit yet?)
