+1. The Chrismar map is the only one that has updated portage information. Fisher shows a number of portages that are no longer maintained. So whatever map you use for navigation--Fisher, McKenzie, or even print topo maps off of Caltopo for free--you'll want a Chrismar for updating the portages.

This is your first trip to Q. I guarantee it won't be your last. Get a Chrismar map for the overview and buy McKenzies for navigation. You'll be glad you have 'em. The more you go, the more maps you'll need and want.
Something else you can buy for planning is the Fisher Canoe Country map book. It's the complete set of Fisher maps shrunk down a bit and assembled in a large flip book. Again, one can never have enough maps.
I like the Fisher book for it's complete set of maps, but I still prefer McKenzie Maps for taking on a trip.

Both Fischer and McKenzie maps are great for Quetico. There are no free maps online that you can print and take with you. Your map purchase will be the smallest expense of your trip.
The Chrismar map is a good reference map but too small for navigation.

I only carry the Chrismar map. I find the scale manageable.

try caltopo.com....in the preset layers, try the Mapbuilder topo tab, or the 7.5 topo tab.....they have portages marked but no campsites. You can save these to a pdf and then print them from the pdf. I use them for trips and then mark in the campsites from Memory Maps....or you could use other sources.

+1 on carrying only the Chrismar (now) map. Prior to Chrismar, we carried the official Quetico Park Foundation map, and still carry one that we've marked with campsite and portage notes. The one time in 40 years of paddling Quetico that I carried other maps, I felt like I spent all my time folding and refolding them to stay on the map!
