We did a Clear Lake basecamp via entry 32 around Memorial Day 2012. We caught walleyes, but had to work for them. That may have also been our general inexperience with canoe fishing at that time. Simply bringing an anchor bag would have made a big difference.

There is also a decent smallmouth and pike population. Overall, I liked this lake as a nice mixed bag fishing lake. There’s a sunken island in the middle of the main lake area that can be seen on the aerial photo that doesn’t show up on the DNR lake depth map. Around that rock pile is where we had the most luck, and where we needed an anchor. We had a drift sock, but there was enough wind that we still had to do a lot of paddling to stay around the pile.

Have a great trip!

Going to clear lake hopefully for base camp mid May. I see they stock this lake with walleye every other year. How good is this lakes walleye numbers. And do they bite good mid may?

I want to base camp on this lake if there are a lot of eater size Walter's to be consumed. Or do they
leave the lake to the river in the spring time? I believe the river and lake are connected but I don't know if that beaver dam slows them down?
