Black flies, yes, maybe. Mosquitoes, not so much."

I’d be shocked if the black flys are out pre Memorial Day weekend.

I’ll be on Ogish the 15th though the 17th and on Seagull on the 18th. I hammock and never bring the bug net this time of year. The ticks however will likely be out in droves. I’m treating my clothes with Permethrin tonight!

Howdy Everyone. A friend and I are heading up next week for a 5-day, putting in on Friday the 17th and coming out on the 22nd. Putting in on Seagull and base camping out of either Alpine or Ogish. This will be mainly a walleye fishing trip.

Question is - how soon will the skeeters show up? We're hammock camping so it would simply mean bringing the nets with us. Didn't know if that would be too early for skeeters or not. The weather right now looks like 20-40% chance of rain every day, but with being over a week out, I'm guessing that can change.

Thoughts? Will the bugs potentially be an issue if the forecast shifts to 65 and sunny?

There is zero chance you will see a mosquito or encounter anyone else who is even thinking of them:

There will be a rain/snow line across northwest Wisconsin where areas southeast of that line will only see rain and northwest of that line will see significant snowfall accumulations.

if you have to ask... the bugs are always bad.

Otherwise, they should not be a problem at this time of year. But be ready for bugs. And rain.
