1. Hog Creek gets you into Perent Lake and the Perent River. The farther west you head, the fewer people you'll see, especially as the weekend anglers depart. Be sure to call the Tofte Ranger Station first for water level in the creek – 218-663-7280.

2. Island River currently has a permit available for both Sunday and Monday. This gets you into Isabella Lake and the Isabella River. Do some research on the Pagami Creek Fire extent before committing to this one.

Meeds Lake entry is usually available. Stay on Meeds or venture to Pillsbury or Hensen and it is often pretty quiet. Few like to take the Poplar to Meeds portage.

Thanks Boonie. I'll look into those. This would be our first trip to the BW. I've done all of my tripping in Michigan and Algonquin PP.

Trying frantically to put together a last minute trip for two. Any suggestions for a bit of solitude and scenery this late? Provided a permit is available...

How many days are you looking to be in the woods?

Hoping to get in on Sunday or Monday for about four nights...

Personally I would pull up the permits available and go to the area that has the least amount reserved. Almost every entry is amazing...some were burnt fairly bad so I would stay away from those ones.

What entry date? And what permits are available?

You could look into Angleworm, Missing Link, Island River, Little Indian Sioux South (or N), and maybe a couple of others.

Sunday permit available for Homer Lake. Nice area, not usually very busy, good fishing decent scenery, great daytrip up the Vern River.

Saturday 1 permit available for Kawishiwi Lake, Saturday 6 permits available. Very nice area and entry. Head up to Polly(4 hours) or Malberg(7 hours) if you are ambitious. Lots of daytrip or extensions of the trip from there if you want. Funny, 1 permit available Saturday, 6 permits available Sunday, none Monday and 6 again on Tuesday. Lots of routes and campsites out of this entry point.

Crocodile River entry #66 has a permit available Sunday(quota is only 1 per day). This is unique in that you actually enter on E. Bearskin Lake and take a 100 rod portage to Crocodile Lake - 4 sites on the lake and excellent walleye fishing. But...you must stay all nights on Crocodile Lake from this entry. It's worth it. Paddle and portage 2-3 hours to camp but it is a dead end lake and thus very quiet and remote feeling for being so close to the entry. Pretty lake, good chance for wildlife sightings, great walleye fishing. Unless your group wants to travel everyday this would be good. On this trip you have to be willing to...relax.
