Thanks all-
x2JMorris- we have never really targeted lake trout- do you have additional thoughts on that specifically?

Last year we did two mid October trips. One was to sawbill and the other was to Gabbro. We saw more people on the Gabbro trip, but didn't see a soul on either trip other than the entry point lakes. We did large loops and had the entire place to ourselves after we got off the entry point lakes.
We are hiking the Sioux Hustler trail this October.

I am not the best fisherman by far kirkfish however I have gone on some trout trips... though I believe it was splake/rainbows. However we did blown up worms on slip sinkers from shore and Little Cleos when in the canoe and the few times I have gone after them has generally produced fairly well.

Like others said it is a great time to go to areas that are normally very popular. Gabro is a nice lake. Wood lake as well... I'd say almost any area that you want would be a good pick. I guess personally I would go Gunflint for the trout at that time of year.

Planning a potential 3 to 4 day trip over my son's college fall break. Mid Oct- we've canoe camped that time of year previously and know to bail if the forecast gets too nasty. Probably looking at a single base camp with fishing day trip options, moderate paddle in- planning to go from Ely area vs Gunflint - thanks for your thoughts.

October (except MEA weekend) is a great time to do the usually more popular and crowded entries like Lake One or Mudro or even Little Gabbro. I really like the day trip opportunities from Gabbro and Bald Eagle, but good things everywhere.

I’m not sure but I think Trout season closes on September 30.

Fall lake can be a very nice entry in October as the boat traffic is almost done.
