Heading into South Hegman in mid-September w/ a group of 8. (3) Hammocks, (1) ground dweller & (2) tents.
Any insight into campsite suitability on S. Hegman or Little Bass for a group w/ these needs?
We've avoided this entry for years because it's kind of isolated and short, but decided to head this way for a short entry this year b/c one of our crew is coming off knee surgery.

Stayed at S. Hegman site #1 back in the 2nd week of June. Should be room for the 2 tents and the ground dweller. May be tight with the hammocks though. Very nice site, on a point with a good breeze going through. The portage to the lake is downhill, not real steep, pretty decent path with some rocky spots. The stairs at the end are kind of funky. As andym said, the knee surgery patient might have a problem with those, depending on how far along in recovery they are.

Have you day tripped the area? The portage from the parking lot to South Hegman has a pretty steep downhill with steps that could be a problem for someone who just had knee surgery. It may depend on how far along they are in the recovery. Taking hiking poles might help them take some load off their knees and stay stable.

Not much really -- just an oddball who sleeps on a tarp under a tarp :)
I suspect the South Hegman sites are well used and therefore have larger footprints available for so many tents & hammocks, but am concerned w/ the sites on Little Bass, not knowing how open they are.

I took a group of 9 Boy Scouts into S Hegman last year.
2 Hammocks and 3 tents. We stayed at sight 3 which had plenty of room for what we needed.
The only issue I had was a huge window maker of a tree right in the middle of camp.

I should have added that you are also right next to the portage to N. Hegman and Little Bass.
