The gopher is right. If busted with them declare them to be fire starters.

Just got back from a trip one week ago. When buying food beforehand we pondered the same Pringle's question and opted for the Lays Stax for the very same reason: no metal in container at all. I'm not a taste expert on the stuff but could not tell much difference between the Pringles and Lays product.

Dump them in a ziplock and use the crumbs for fish breading. That’s the only valid, legal use.

They're very similar, but are a thicker chip. Less breakage.

Here’s an out of the box (can) answer. If you must have snack food, why settle for Pringles? Dump your favorite chips (snacks) into a Tupperware. It will prevent crushing and moisture (unlike cardboard). Just a thought.

Don’t try this. I never considered a Pringle’s sleeve to be out of bounds, so to speak, so I put six eggs in one, thinking it was a handy dandy container. Not so much. Broke three eggs on the way in and my son, being a somewhat fussy eater wasn’t having it. Not even the unbroken ones. Next trip we just used the foamy container they come in from the store. Not much padding in Pringle’s sleeve.
Like Pringles some times. But I will not venture into the exotic flavors. They are fake enough food as they are the regular type. Kinda funky. I guess it’s the salt, or just a need to eat something funky.

We bring a short container. Come to think of it, the biscuits that we have been bringing in for years for cowboy doughnuts come in the same style packaging. Never gave it a thought. The metal ring around the cardboard tube might give one pause, but I think that it's hardly the type of tin can they had in mind when the rule was written.

I've taken Pringles twice but kept them in the bottom of the pack and had someone on the lookout when I took them out.

Or go with Ritz Garden Vegetable. Great for adding cheese too and they come in a plastic moisture free wrapper. And if any get crushed they are great at fish breading.

Who cares if it has metal? Look at all the other metal in your gear.

Since they come in a card board tube the answer is no. Please pack the metal ring out. If you have any sour cream and onion left send them my way.

Talking with USFS Rangers at issuing stations I have asked about food containers and was told "if it is a closable/resealable container that is allowed" this was in reference to plastic soft drink containers and plastic lidded food containers.
Third person answers and anecdotes though are just worth thqat much sand so I'd suggest asking for yourself. One consideration is the Pringle can's suitability as a trash container to carry wrappers out in.

Yes Pringles are allowed, but Fritos are banned.
I’ve been to over 50 trips and have been checked by rangers few times. If by chance you should have a ranger encounter one of the last things they’re looking for is a Pringle can. They are more concerned with coolers of beer cans or bottles. They will not be going through your packs. I’m not even sure if they have the right to do that. If they see you are eating out of a can of beans or beef stew that’s a problem. If you want to follow the law just repackage your chips into a crush proof package. But personally I wouldn’t worry about it. Just remember the dip.
