Do some Google searches for Pagami Fire boundaries and you will find some maps on-line of the burn area.
If you go to the north end of Insula you will be OK.

The Pagami Creek fire hit that area in 2011. The south sides of lakes 3, 4, and Insula were affected by it pretty heavy. The southern shore of Insula will be fairly bare but the rest of Insula should be ok.

A buddy and I were thinking of taking a trip later in the year with the destination being Insula. I haven't been that way in a long time. Wasn't there a fire through there a while back? And if so, when was that and how has it recovered?

A lot of the area is reforesting with jackpine. As of last July, the new trees were approaching 8' tall and very thick. As much of this area had had jackpine, this isn't surprising and since most of the jackpine that was there was reaching the end of its lifespan, the fire was really a blessing in disguise.
It was sad to see the barren area in 2012, but now it is a story of rebirth. Areas without the jackpine are growing up with birch, aspen and alder. Some of the shoreline also has white cedar that survived the fire.
