Hello All,
I will be heading into Pine Lake later this week. Just curious on what everyone uses to check weather leading up to heading in. Being more inland from Grand Portage and Covill, I am just not sure what area's forecast I should be looking at to get the most accurate picture. Is it far enough inland to make much of a difference for that matter?
Also, if you bring in a weather radio, what do you tune it to in the Pine Lake area.

ledhead: "I like weather.gov. Not fancy but for me, primarily up here in the CO mountains it's proven most accurate. I especially like the feature where you can click on the forecast map, you then receive forecast for a 1 mile square where you just clicked. Example, you could click L Pine Lake."
NWS forecasts grids are about as good they get, 1 mile SQ in Urban areas- bigger elsewhere,. But it all depends on where the source info comes from. NWS forecasts out to 48-72 hours are heavily augmented by humans, most other sources are all automated,. Past 3 days- the NWS really forecasts with trends and climate compared to run-to-run computer models, that and experience.

Weather radios give you 7 channels - you just click through them until you hear something better than static. If it's the Grand Marais channel, you will also get the Lake Superior nautical forecast. Sometimes you need to move around your site to get reception, or hold on to the antenna over your head. The fatter you are, the better the reception. The Canadian weather service uses the same channels, so the standard weather radio works in the Quetico too.
